FORMER PRESIDENT LUNGU HANDS OVER POWER TO HH
People from all walks of life converged at the national heroes’ stadium, to witness the inauguration of His Excellency the 7 th President of the Republic of Zambia Hakainde Hichilema of the United Party for National Development UPND who this afternoon took over power from former President Edgar Lungu of the Patriotic Front PF.
People started trooping to the 60,000-capacity stadium Monday evening. President Hakainde Hichilema, clad in a black suit with a red tie accompanied by his wife, Mutinta Hichilema, wearing a pinch velvet dress arrived to a thunderous welcome.
Former President Lungu arrived later on accompanied by his daughter, Ms. Tasila Lungu Mwansa.
Several African presidents witnessed the inauguration of the President-Elect Hakainde Hichilema.
Those in attendance included Tanzania's Samia Suluhu, Botswana's Mokgweetsi Masisi and Zimbabwe's President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Several other delegations were been sent to represent different heads of states at the ceremony.
President Hichilema took the oath of office of Presidency at exactly 12 hours amidst wild jubilation from spectators in the terraces.
