Malaysia's King says next PM must prove legitimacy with vote of confidence in parliament

A deadline has passed for Malaysian MPs to submit their pick for Prime Minister to the King. Two names appear to be at the top of the list: Former deputy prime minister Ismail Sabri and opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim. An announcement is expected as early as Friday, but the King has warned that whoever is picked must immediately prove their legitimacy with a confidence vote in parliament. The King has slammed the recent political turmoil - saying it has disrupted Malaysia's fight against COVID-19. The country reported a record high of over 22,000 new cases on Aug 18.
