Perrottet: The additional financial assistance for NSW will ‘ensure’ jobs are kept

The additional financial assistance announced for New South Wales businesses and workers during Sydney’s extended lockdown will "ensure" jobs are kept, according to NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet.

On Wednesday Prime Minister Scott Morrison announced the maximum support payment for individuals would be raised from $600 to $750 while the payment for those who have lost work fewer than 20 hours a week would be raised from $375 to $450.

“Obviously I think the package yesterday will ensure that when it comes to employment here in our state, that those jobs are kept,” Mr Perrottet told Sky News Australia.

“That’ve been incredibly successful over the last 18 months with the JobKeeper program. We lost a couple of hundred thousand jobs here in our state, recovered all of them.

“And we want to ensure that occurs again during this lockdown period and over the next six months as we move through what will potentially be - after the lockdown period - an environment where there will still be some restrictions on businesses.

“It’s not a set and forget situation. As the situation changes, we’ll change our policy settings with it.”
