Simone Biles Pulls Out of Women’s Gymnastics Team Final

“Start Your Day” hosts Sharon Reed and Mike Hill voiced their support for Simone Biles, who has pulled out of the gymnastics team competition at the Tokyo Olympics.

The GOAT of gymnastics cited an unspecified “medical issue” for the withdrawal. The USA Gymnastics Team released a statement, saying Biles will be “assessed daily to determine medical clearance for the future competitions. Thinking of you, Simone!” While it’s unknown at this time if it is a mental or physical issue, Hill said he hopes people will have the same capacity to show compassion and not brush it to the side as we’ve seen many times before. “We’ve been conditioned in society to equate mental challenges, mental breakdowns, mental hiccups with weakness,” said Reed.

She said that today, we can start undoing the indoctrination surrounding mental health and whatever Biles is going through, we have to stand beside her. “People that are coming for her right now, if you’re one of those people that’s questioning her GOAT status or questioning her toughness, you’re the one that has the mental issues, and you need to get checked,” Hill added.
