How a Diesel Engine Works? Its Parts & Functions

How does a diesel engine work?
Diesel engines work by compressing only the air. This increases the air temperature inside the cylinder to such a high degree that atomized diesel fuel injected into the combustion chamber ignites spontaneously. They were originally used as a more efficient replacement for stationary steam engines.

The main difference between Diesel & Petrol:
The primary difference (as most of you already know), is that petrol engines use spark plugs to ignite the air-fuel mixture, while diesel engines rely on heavily compressed air without any spark plugs. Diesel engines are more efficient than petrol.

Which is better gas or diesel engine?
Diesel engines are still more efficient than gas engines, but less so for those who are mostly engaged in city driving. Diesel cars also have more torque, which results in better fuel economy along with more impressive acceleration.

The main component of a diesel engine:
There will be hundreds of components on a 4 stroke diesel engine. These components certainly have their own duties and functions. Cylinder Block, Piston & Connecting Rod, Crankshaft, Timing Chain Assembly, Fuel Injector and more.
