This is an interview with Maryland Govern Candidate Nancy Wallace about the extremely high incarceration rate of black men. She was the only candidate brave enough to talk about it.
The state of Maryland has the highest incarceration rate of black men in the world. The MD incarceration rate of black men is almost twice the national average of 32% (still too high).
Maryland has an incarceration rate of 531 per 100,000 people (including prisons, jails, immigration detention, and juvenile justice facilities). This means that MD incarcerates a higher percentage of its people than almost any democracy on Earth – 70% black.
What MD doesn’t tell us is that corporation run the prisons. These corporations get paid according to the number of people that are housed in their facilities - Human Trafficking. The more people that are incarcerated, the more the corporations get paid. The state also uses the people in the prisons as cheap labor in order to increase profits – Forced Labor. New term, same slavery.
