Media as an institution has hit rock bottom. Distrust in #television & #print is the highest it's ever been. Not surprising, given that mass media's role has changed dramatically from information provider to opinion-controller. With public trust in mass media at the bottom (only congress ranks lower according to Gallup) - does MSM still have a place when viewers are less provided with facts, and instead told what to think? What could a different tv, print and social media look like? Who pays for media going forward?
When the print and tv landscape are dominated by a handful of corporations, there's a problem. Journalism in the classic sense of investigative reporting has long made way for "opinion-shaping" and censored/spoon-fed information. Copy-paste headlines are the new norms; public distrust is as high as ever. #Social media fueling polarity unprecedented.
Does media still have a future and can it re-invent itself is what's being looked at in this episode.
