Protesters from the environmental group Extinction Rebellion (XR) were arrested as they blocked roads in central London.

Some 40 people were
arrested during the
protest on Tuesday, bringing the total number of
arrests to 102 over the XR's
three days of activity.

Protesters could be seen being cut from chains by police after they had locked themselves to immovable objects.

XR activists started two weeks of climate protests on Monday to 'target the root cause of the climate and ecological crisis', calling on the government to stop new investment in fossil fuels.
