
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson turned on the Christmas tree lights outside his 10 Downing Street residence in central London as eager schoolchildren watched and cheered.
Turning to the schoolchildren, Johnson asked "Do you think this Christmas is going to be considerably better than last Christmas?", echoing a common line from his Conservative party, who said people will be able to celebrate this year despite the recent discovery of more than a dozen cases of the Omicron variant of COVID-19.
The watching crowd was disappointed for a moment, as lights went out just as fast as they came on, although Johnson quickly turned them back on.
